Our Story

The business started in 2005 and initially were able to successfully open and manage 4 markets. It was a very difficult venture as we had zero experience doing this. At that time all of the markets were on short term leases. Our success in managing and growing the markets prompted lessors to take over the markets for themselves. While it was painful to have the markets that we have worked hard to establish be taken over, we realize that the lessons we took from those were even more valuable. We have successfully opened and operated 11 wet markets. We have the secret sauce to duplicate this.

Star Market Realty & Dev’t Corp was incorporated with the SEC on June 25, 2010, with registration number CS201009621.

Since being incorporated, Star Market was able to acquire leases for 4 more markets in Novaliches. These are the markets that are still operating today. In 2017, the company was able to purchase their first property in Bagong Silang, Caloocan which is also still operating as of today.

With years of experience in the palengke industry, Star Market had realizations about the industry’s current state and opportunities it presented. Palengkes are ubiquitous but these are either public markets or privately owned markets with only a single branch. This means there are as many ways of managing these as there are number of markets. There’s no company that actively expands and manages a chain of wet markets. We aim to be that company.

The Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020 was uncharted territory for the company and our tenants. But it cemented our belief that our industry was less susceptible to disruptions as we were able to withstand and even thrive during that period. And in 2021, we’ve even started operating an additional branch in Novaliches and started a new branch in Brgy Pineda, Pasig City.

Aside from commercial leasing being the main line of business, Star Market also runs trading businesses through its subsidiary Red Star OPC. Through this trading arm, we supply various palengke goods from meats, produce, and more, to restaurants and hotels across Metro Manila. The B2B model was started 2018, long before Covid started but by March of 2020 when the pandemic started, our palengke delivery service started B2C operations as well. By early 2022, Star Market included hospitals to its long list of clientele. This is a continuous source of pride, knowing that hospitals have a higher standard when it comes to the ingredients for their patients and staff.
